The summer solstice occurs at 10:57 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, marking the official start of the season.
High pressure will bring largely dry and seasonable weather to the region, according to the National Weather Service.
High temperatures Wednesday will range from the low 70s along the coast to mid to upper 70s inland with partly sunny skies.
Then a prolonged period of unsettled weather arrives Wednesday evening into Thursday, June 22, and continues through early next week.
Rain could be heavy at times overnight, and showers will be likely during the day and into the evening on Thursday. About a half-inch of rainfall is possible throughout the day.
It will be cooler Thursday with a high temperature in the mid-60s.
Friday, June 23 will be warmer and more humid with a high temperature in the upper 70s. Showers will once again be likely, and thunderstorms will be possible.
About three-quarters of an inch of rainfall is possible Friday.
Look for more of the same on Saturday, June 24, and Sunday, June 25, with showers and storms at times and high temperatures in the low 80s on both days.
